Restaurant Review: Toast Society in Las Vegas

So let me tell you first that I haven’t always been a huge fan of toast. If I eat it, it has to be a little burnt with some crunch and either have chunks of avocado or a layer of peanut butter spread real thick all over. My favorite breakfast foods usually consist of smoothies, oats, or eggs.

When I first visited Toast Society, it was when my boyfriend and I were planning our cross country road trip to move out to California in 2018 and we already knew we were going to stop in Las Vegas. We’d done the drive from Memphis, TN twice already and we always broke up the drive through four, 8-hour days to stay with family along the way. We first stopped in Norman, OK, then to Albuquerque NM, and then in Las Vegas as our last stop before the 4th stretch to San Jose. Last time we did this drive, Toast Society hadn’t opened yet. When we made our arrangements for Vegas, obviously the first thing that popped into my mind was Rachel Devaux’s Toast Society that I’ve heard nothing but awesome hype about. I didn’t get my hopes up because I didn’t know how far off it would be from the strip and I didn’t know if we’d have time since we were only staying for one night, but I was determined.

We ended up stopping on our way out of Vegas before our last 8 hour home stretch to California. I was ecstatic to go and the excitement was overflowing when we pulled up. The cafe was only 20 minutes outside of the strip, to my surprise. First glance at the menu, I wanted everything. I was pretty close to ordering a smoothie and a yogurt bowl, which I’m sure would have been divine, but I knew I would regret not ordering the toasts that I had been salivating over on Instagram for the past 2 months. I would have ordered it all, but a yogurt bowl and smoothie would not have lasted long in the car.

I asked Rachel what her favorite toast was and she said the PB crunch, which looked bomb! She advised me to get the flight of toasts, which is a flight of 3 different 1/2 toasts. Of course this was the way to go and I was so happy I did! I ordered the following:

The House Favorite: Smashed Avocado, Feta, Cherry Tomato, Microgreens, Seal Salt, Sesame, Drizzled Olive Oil

Toast & Lox: Cream cheese, Sliced Cucumber, Salmon, Dill

PB&J (September special): Peanut butter, house raspberry jam, honey, granola.

You have the option to order their normal toasts, GF bread, or sweet potato toasts. I went for the normal because their seeded bread looked really good and I was really happy with my choice. Maybe I’ll experiment next time! My favorite was a tie between the house favorite and the pb&j. The avocado was a perfect blend between smashed, chunky, and creamy– basically the best guacamole you’ve ever had. All of the other toppings were not too much at all and didn’t take away from the perfect combination of a classic and simply delicious avocado toast. That drizzled olive oil and sea salt though, definitely the best part.

The pb&j was surprisingly just something out of this world. I expected it to taste like a piece of peanut butter toast with some jam and crunch, however it was one hundred times better. The peanut butter I believe was salted and went very well with the seeded toast, which wasn’t too hard, as it was just perfect enough to sink your teeth into. The JAM THOUGH. Oh my god. This muddled raspberry jam was on another planet and was absolutely perfect. Not too sweet, more on the tart side and tasted like an actual raspberry. A perfect blend of flavors that complimented each other so well to create a huge party in my mouth… unreal. The toast and lox was delicious as well, but I can get sick of cream cheese fast. Thankfully, they only put a thin layer on and a lot of lox, which is how I like it. I actually put some salmon pieces on the avocado toast and that was a proud move on my part.

The second time I visited, two years later, was yesterday as we make our 4th cross country drive to move out of California (temporarily), back to Memphis and in the middle of a pandemic. I was not surprised that the vibes, food, and aesthetic had been amped up because everything in there looked like it should be on Pinterest. The details and decor in the cafe made me feel as if I was in Rachel Devaux's home with the mason jars full of seeds and superfoods, collagen water in the cooler fridge, and even copies of her No Sugar Added Detox for sale. I order an iced chai latte with almond milk and 2 pieces of toast this time- the House Favorite and the Toast & Lox. Not knowing when I would be revisiting, I went with the tried and true and something I know I would pound straight to the face because it's that good.

I had a very positive experience at Toast Society both times I visited. The service was great and I could tell that my toast was made with extreme care and decorative intention. Sadly, Rachel wasn’t there either time, I sweat I missed her by like 2 weeks both times, but I did meet her sister, Madeline who seemed so sweet. The vibe of the cafe is so cute and they have so many goodies and amazing menu items. If you’re ever in the Vegas area, I highly recommend going out of your way to stop at Toast Society because you absolutely will not regret it. Cheers to Rachel and her dope Toast crew because it’s a pure success!
